Ms Linda FUNG
Ballet Dancer

Ms Linda FUNG received her ballet training at a young age under Mrs Christine LIAO, JP, a renowned ballet teacher.  Later when she was in secondary school, Ms FUNG pursued dance training in the United Kingdom.  Appreciated by her instructor, Ms FUNG was invited to study full-time dancing at The Royal Ballet School.  During the period, she applied for a scholarship under The Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund (the Fund) with a hope to realise her dream.  Ms FUNG said the scholarship award marked the turning point of her life.  It was also an appreciation and recognition from the community that had greatly encouraged her.  With the support from her parents, Ms FUNG continued to pursue her career in the dance sector.  Originally, ballet was just a hobby to Ms FUNG.  Having been awarded the scholarship, she developed her hobby into her career, which had brightened her pathway to ballet.

Ms FUNG pursued advanced studies at The Royal Ballet School in the United Kingdom where she learnt dancing techniques, pas de deux, classical ballet and choreography.  By studying overseas, Ms FUNG gained the opportunity to know the top dancers and choreographers around the globe, and the way they practiced, choreographed, rehearsed and performed, which had broadened her horizons towards dancing.  Ms FUNG excelled less in dance performance than her peers as she started her dance training late.  However, she soon caught up with them with her own endeavors and with the guidance and feedbacks from her fellow classmates.

Ms FUNG said that, as dancing demanded high physical strength and flexibility, she had to practise stretches very often.  In order to improve her body shape, she had even put on layers of clothes under a high temperature during her dance practice for a long time.  Despite the difficult process, Ms FUNG grasped the nettle to refine her dance movements and strive for a more graceful performance.  Her boundless enthusiasm for dancing made her able to seek pleasure and comfort herself in adversity.  As long as the pain could help enhance her performance, she would take them all with joy.

Ms FUNG was deeply honoured to have been appointed as a member of both the Board of Trustees of the Fund and the Dance Audition Panel.  She was also delighted to learn that the Fund has helped many talented young musicians and dancers to realise their dreams over the years.  Lastly, Ms FUNG hoped that the major media, such as newspapers, magazines and television broadcast, could cover more news on the latest trend of the arts sector, with a view to raising public awareness towards the local art circle and bringing the arts and dance into the community.
