Ms HON Ka-ching, Flora
Modern Dancer

Ms HON Ka-ching, Flora is a modern dancer.  When she was young, her mother tried to help her develop a hobby.  However, neither playing the piano nor drawing was appealing to her.  By chance, Ms HON began to learn dancing with her elder sister, and she was captivated by it since then.

Ms HON started to learn modern dance during her secondary school years.  Upon graduation, she was admitted to the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts to further her studies.  Turning from an amateur dancer to a professional, Ms HON loved dancing even more and was more serious towards and more concerned with dancing.  During that time, Ms HON hoped to broaden her horizons and pursue further studies in dance overseas.  She spent half a year to prepare for her application to The Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund (the Fund).  When she was notified of the results, she jumped for joy as she could finally make her dream come true.

When she first studied in the United States, Ms HON was amazed by the outstanding performances of her foreign peers.  When compared, she belittled herself and doubted if she was qualified for the scholarship.  Later, she finally realised that she should treasure the opportunity provided by the Fund to further her studies.  She then cherished much the two years of studying abroad and became more proactive in learning.  She confessed that the learning process had enabled her to become a more mature person, which was essential to the development of her dancing career.

Ms HON expressed that the Fund was like a philanthropist which helped many young musicians and dancers to realise their dreams.  She was thankful that the Fund has provided her the chance to advance her studies overseas.  She regarded the scholarship for dance as her most valuable and important achievement in her life to date.  The Fund could help broaden the horizons of many young people.  She expected that, with the assistance of the Fund, young people could create more graceful dances to promote the development of dance in Hong Kong.
